The Service Catalog
BALU ECOMMERCE LIMITED provides computer integrated systems design and related consulting across six connected service lines. Read together, they describe a single practice: understanding a technical estate, designing its target state, connecting what already exists, and then operating it with discipline.
Integrated Systems Architecture
Integrated systems architecture is where every engagement begins. We survey the applications, network segments, data stores, integration points and human workflows that make up your estate, then translate them into a single target architecture with clear boundaries and named owners. The point is not to draw a pretty diagram but to create a reference model that answers ordinary operational questions quickly: what talks to what, who is responsible for each part, and what happens when one part changes.
Our architects record each significant decision together with the trade-offs that produced it. When a team later asks why a particular pattern was chosen, the reasoning is available rather than lost. We also define the non-functional requirements that shape the design, including availability targets, recovery expectations, throughput assumptions and the constraints imposed by existing contracts or regulations.
The output of this service line is a living architecture catalog: component descriptions, relationship maps, interface conventions and a phased roadmap from the current state to the target state. It becomes the spine that all the other service lines attach to.
Enterprise Platform Integration
Enterprise platform integration connects the systems a business already depends on, such as finance, logistics, customer relationship and inventory platforms. These systems were rarely designed to cooperate, so we build the connective tissue between them: interface contracts, message queues, API gateways and transformation layers that move records reliably and predictably.
We favour documented contracts over fragile point to point connections. Each interface has a defined schema, error behaviour, retry policy and owner, which makes it testable and replaceable. Where a legacy platform cannot be changed, we wrap it in an adapter that presents a clean interface to the rest of the estate, so the limitations of the old system do not leak into the new design.
We also design for failure. Integrations are expected to lose connectivity, receive malformed data and be retried. Our patterns account for those realities with queues, dead letter handling, reconciliation reports and alerting, so a hiccup in one platform does not silently corrupt records in another.
Cloud Infrastructure Engineering
Cloud infrastructure engineering gives the integrated system a resilient home. We define network layouts, identity boundaries, storage tiers and deployment pipelines as code, which means environments can be rebuilt from a repository rather than reconstructed from memory. A new environment becomes a repeatable exercise, not a multi-week project.
Cost, resilience and recovery targets are treated as first class design inputs. We model expected load, choose instance and storage classes deliberately, and set autoscaling and lifecycle rules that match real usage patterns. Recovery objectives are tested, not assumed, so the organisation knows how long a restore actually takes before it needs one.
Security is built into the foundation through network isolation, least privilege identity roles and encrypted storage. Because the infrastructure lives in version control, every change is reviewable and reversible, and the same code that built the test environment builds production.
Managed IT Operations
Managed IT operations keeps the systems we deliver, and the systems you already own, healthy over time. Our operations desk runs monitoring, patching, backup verification and incident response against written service levels. Every alert has a named owner and every incident produces a reviewed record, which means operational knowledge accumulates instead of evaporating when an engineer moves on.
We build monitoring around what matters to the business rather than what is easy to measure. Dashboards surface the signals that precede an outage, and alert thresholds are tuned to avoid both silence and noise. Patching is scheduled and tracked, backups are restored in test to prove they work, and capacity trends are reviewed so growth does not arrive as a surprise.
Our operations model is transparent. You can see the same service levels, the same incident timeline and the same improvement actions that our engineers see. Where your internal team wants to take over a function, we document it and train for the transition rather than holding knowledge back.
Data Pipeline and Analytics Systems
Data pipeline and analytics systems turn day to day operational activity into information that people trust. We design ingestion, transformation and storage layers with validation at every hop, so a record is checked as it enters the pipeline and again as it is transformed. Bad data is stopped and reported rather than quietly absorbed into a report.
Dashboards and reporting models sit on top of governed datasets with documented definitions. When two parts of a business disagree about a number, the catalog settles the question by showing the source record and the transformation that produced the figure. Lineage is maintained from the original event through to every derived metric.
We also design for the questions that have not been asked yet. Storage is organised so that new analytical models can be built without reworking the pipeline, and the schema is documented well enough that an analyst can join the team and become productive quickly.
Security and Compliance Design
Security and compliance design weaves controls into the architecture from the beginning, covering identity, access, encryption, logging and network isolation. Compliance obligations are translated into concrete technical requirements, and evidence is collected automatically wherever possible. A system that can prove its posture is far easier to audit than one that simply claims to be secure.
We map each obligation to a specific control and to the system component that enforces it, producing a matrix that auditors and engineers can both read. Access reviews, key rotation, logging retention and vulnerability management are placed on schedules with owners. Where a risk cannot be eliminated, we document the decision and the compensating control that reduces it.
This service line is never a final inspection bolted on at the end. It begins with the first architecture sketch and continues through operations, because security is a property of the whole system and of the habits that maintain it.
How We Work
The Delivery Process
Every engagement follows a consistent sequence. It keeps expectations aligned and makes progress visible at each stage.
-
Survey and Index
We inventory applications, infrastructure, data flows and the people who depend on them. Findings are recorded in a shared register so that nothing rests on verbal memory.
-
Design and Review
We produce the target architecture, integration contracts and security model, then walk stakeholders through each decision and its trade-offs before construction starts.
-
Build in Increments
We implement in controlled slices, each with its own acceptance criteria, so value arrives early and risk stays contained.
-
Test and Verify
Integrations, pipelines, recovery procedures and security controls are tested against agreed criteria before anything is considered complete.
-
Operate and Hand Over
We transition into monitored operations with runbooks, diagrams and training sessions, so your own team can take the wheel with confidence.
